Short answer: Three powers fight for the storm’s edge: the Industrial Zealots (machine-worshipping forges), the Void Nomads (stateless storm-riders) and the Corrupt Cults (chaos-mystics seeking revelation in broken physics). Each faction has its own ideology, colours and aesthetic — and each is playable as a miniature force, kitbash or paint project.
Warpstorm is an original fictional universe. Not affiliated with any other sci-fi franchise or games company.
A Rift Where Empires End
The settled systems send armadas. The storm eats them. What remains around the Warpstorm’s edge is not one power but three — each born from a different answer to the same question: what do you do when the universe stops making sense?
The Industrial Zealots
Ideology: The storm is a gift. Its unstable energy powers smelting furnaces no ordinary reactor could feed, and the Zealots have built their entire civilization around harvesting it.
- Look: Massive forge-shrines, riveted armour, copper and black iron, exhaust-stacks like cathedral spires
- Palette: oxidized copper, soot black, ember orange
- On the table: slow, brutal, armour-heavy forces built around a central engine-shrine
- Paint guide match: rust and battle damage is their entire aesthetic
The Zealots believe every storm flare is a sermon and every lost ship an offering. Their forges have never gone cold.
The Void Nomads
Ideology: Freedom is distance. The Nomads learned to ride the storm’s energy waves — sailing its edge currents to stay beyond every law, census and debt.
- Look: patched-together ships, mismatched armour, sails and antenna masts, trophies from a hundred ports
- Palette: storm grey, teal glow accents, salt-white
- On the table: fast, raid-focused forces; every model unique, every vehicle kitbashed
- Paint guide match: kitbashing guide — a Nomad army is built to be one-of-a-kind
Their fleets appear without warning, trade at honest prices in stolen goods, and vanish before the bill arrives.
The Corrupt Cults
Ideology: The storm is a door. What speaks through it is worth more than safety, worth more than sanity — and the Cults have been listening for a very long time.
- Look: ritual-glowing relics fused with salvaged tech, robed figures, asymmetrical mutation of form
- Palette: violet portal-light, abyssal black, bone
- On the table: unpredictable, trick-heavy forces centred on relics and portals
- Paint guide match: OSL guide — nothing says Cult like a glowing relic at the wrong moment
Their knowledge is real, their miracles are real, and their price is never money.
